Oh Tebow!

So, the Broncos have been pulling out the wins. Typically speaking the end of seasons always look better for the Broncos, historically. Why so much hubbub this season? The media chase of the elusive Tebow.
The Boy-Wonder who was destined to bring the Broncos back up to their potential.
The kid that is moreso known for his religious stance than his throw.
The young man that is famous for the newly coined term, "tebowing".
I asked an older gentleman on a recent trip, what his impression was of this young man and why everyone is jocking him so much. I mean, really, he's just a kid. Every year there are first round draft picks that go on to do well...or not. Every year the media likes to pick on one up and coming athlete and make an example of him, whether good or bad. This conservative, religious gentleman responded, "the liberal media is making him a big deal because he is the only openly Christian athlete". Well. OK.
I wondered how many other, bitter disillusioned conservatives are so pissed off at the media that they spew this kind of ignorance.
Tebow is hardly the first openly Chritian anything.
As long as I have been watching professional sports, there have always been pro athletes dropping down on one knee, raising their arms to the skies after a touchdown, thanking Jesus himself during a  press conference after a win.
So, no. That is not why.
My opinion.
This kid is too good to be true, and the media's job is to find the dirt. So, why do they ride him like the paparazzi chases Lohan? Because they are waiting for him to misstep. This has nothing to do with his game.
It has to do with the taste of scandal. The hungry, blood thirsty sharks out there with cameras and a laptop. The break. The hidden story. The opportunity to nail someone to the cross...we've been doing it for hundreds of years, and now the masses build the crosses for the persecutors.
So watch out Tebow. "They've" got their eye on you.

  1. Please refer to my blog regarding Tebow. I like him because he WINS. he won two Hesiman trophies. He's not the most elegant QB ...In fact he's downright ugly.....BUT when the game is on the line....He wins. That's it. Why are people on his jock? Seriously? It's becasuse of the color of his skin. As my father used to say:
    "America loves it's white superstars."
It's true and that's Tebow....with all the Christianity and quirkiness thrown in ( the guy cut his hair to look like a monk for God's sake!)
I like Tebow because he's unothodox and different. Because he's left handed ( like my father) and he WINS.

  2. Sometimes...don't forget the start of the season...wasn't winning then. And ALL pro athletes won in college, so let's not dwell on his past life...everyone had one ;)

  3. Tebow only won 1 Heisman in 2007. In 2008 it was Sam Bradford. Tebow came in 2nd (along with McCoy). In 2009, he lost to Mark Ingram. He was however the first sophomore to win the trophy. The only player to win it twice was Archie Griffin for The Ohio State University. Why so much hubbub? Because let's face it. His throwing style and the style that the UF offense had doesn't fit the NFL. Ever hear of Ken Dorsey? Right. A 38-2 record (including one of the best bowl games ever, double overtime loss to OSU) and a winner in college. Pro? Drafted 7th round, never started and was out of the league pretty fast. Charlie Ward? Winner of the 93 Heisman. He played in the NBA because his "style" didn't match up with a lot of NFL teams. That's before Kordell Stewart and Michael Vick and other running qb's were all the rage in the NFL. There are a LOT of NFL players that are Christians. And very serious Christians at that. Maybe not in your face like Tebow but certainly I would say "big time Christians." Josh Freeman's dad, Ron, is a preacher in Kansas.
As far as Tebow and his 'great white hope' badge that people have put on him is unfair. There is hype with a lot of these high profile guys. Cam Newton anyone? The NFL doesn't need a 'great white hope.' Tom Brady? Aaron Rodgers? Eli Manning? Peyton Manning?
I think people are just mad that he was picked in the 1st round after everybody said he'd go at the very least in the 3rd round. The fact is, he's a fighter. He is a winner. He CAN win games. Will he lose? Of course. Is his throwing style ugly? Sure. Sometimes when you are on the field, you need a leader. Someone that somehow, some way can get it done. Someone that picks up the troops. He reminds me a lot of how Brett Favre would be on the field. Just throw it up and let someone catch it. And yes, he has a good defense. What team wins without one? So what his views are different. I don't agree with his views. I like him as a player. And I'm a big UF fan too. It's like when people don't like U2 because they think Bono is an arrogant ass. Of course he is. But his music is awesome.
And for the record, rookies get hazed and that's why his haircut is like that. He wasn't above getting hazed by veteran players. And sure, they probably gave him the monk cut because of who he is and what he stands for but it wasn't because he was trying to be a monk.

  4. And Tebow started week 7. After a dismal start to the Bronco season. And you know more than anyone that the fair-weather fans here in Denver wanted a change.
